Step 5: Lock Down Logistics — Before You Pay
Rush orders fail most often in the last mile. The unit ships on time, but then sits in a sorting facility for two days because the carrier doesn't prioritize weekend delivery.
The checklist:
- Confirm the carrier and service level (FedEx Priority Overnight vs. Ground).
- Get a tracking number within 4 hours of order confirmation.
- Confirm delivery window and sign-off (who receives it? Is someone there at 8 AM?).
- Have a backup plan. I had a client pay for Saturday delivery, but the shipment got stuck in a holiday backlog. The backup was having a second unit shipped from a closer warehouse. We didn't need it, but the peace of mind was worth the $120 standby fee.
