It will handle a refrigerator, a few lights, phone charging, and a small window AC if you start it before other loads. That's the trade-off. A 2200 will also run an RV refrigerator without problem, but most RV AC units need 3000+ startup watts. 3. What should I verify in a Generac backup generator installation?

A Generac backup generator installation is only as good as its transfer switch. A legal install uses a transfer switch that physically separates your panel from the grid; a backfeed cord can kill a lineman and is not to code. I assumed a bigger pump always meant better flow until a unit came back with return-line overheating because the pump was pushing far more than the injector system needed. Oversizing is a real issue. What I mean is, the return line ends up with hot fuel it can't cool. For diesel stationary units, the fuel supply line from tank to pump matters as much as the pump's LPH rating. Check the OEM spec and don't buy generic 'upgrades.'

5. Can I use a 300 watt inverter with my Generac?

I get this one a lot. A 300 watt inverter can run a laptop, a CPAP, a small TV—basically anything under 2.5 amps at 120V. But if you're plugging a 300W inverter into a Generac AC outlet to 'clean up' the power, stop. A modern Generac inverter generator already produces clean enough power for sensitive electronics. Putting an inverter in between just adds a failure point and wastes energy. If you instead have a 12V battery system and you want the generator to charge it, a 300W inverter on the battery can power small gadgets. Put another way: use the inverter where it belongs, not as a filter on an already stable source. It's a low-power accessory, not a generator upgrade.

6. Glow plug vs spark plug: which one does my Generac use?

Glow plug vs spark plug: one heats the cylinder, the other sparks the fuel. Spark plugs ignite an air-fuel mixture in gasoline, natural gas, or propane engines. Glow plugs are little heaters in a diesel engine's cylinder that help cold starts. I used to assume all Generac units had spark plugs until a diesel skid showed up with glow plugs on my bench. Lesson: read the spec sheet. Most home standby Generacs are spark-ignition and use spark plugs. Commercial diesel Generacs use glow plugs. In quality checks, I verify spark plug gap and torque. I've rejected new generators where the oil drain plug wasn't tightened and where a wire chafed against the frame. Both would have failed within the first week. If someone hands you a key and says 'it's fine,' that's a red flag. A reputable dealer will also register the warranty and walk you through the run-in procedure. Most early service calls I see trace back to installation details, not the generator itself. That checklist is your proof it was done right. If the dealer won't share it, call another one.
